After AI notification summaries were a bit of a disaster for Apple, Samsung is appartently preparing support in its next big Galaxy update.
As spotted by SamMobile, leaked firmware of Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update shows that Galaxy phones will be adding AI notification summaries. The feature showed as a pop-up saying:
Your longer conversations can now be summarized to give you quick recaps
The pop-up shows next to a notification from WhatsApp.
A deeper settings menu shows that AI “notification summaries” can be turned off and will “summarize long messages and group conversations.” The page also confirms that Google’s AI models are being used for the feature. It also appears that users can choose to exclude apps from notification summaries.
Based on everything here, it appears that Samsung is likely using the same notifications summary feature that Google has been cooking up for a while now. Earlier this year, similar notes were found in Android 16 builds for Pixel, and it’s clear from both descriptions that the feature only works for messaging apps. The feature has yet to go live on Pixels.

Notably, there were rumors that Samsung would debut its own version of notification summaries with One UI 7, but that obviously didn’t happen. So it seems that One UI 8.5 will be the actual debut.
Of course, this comes with a reputation for AI notification summaries already existing.
Apple infamously added this feature to iOS with its “Apple Intelligence” push, only for Apple to disable it for some apps due to wildly incorrect summaries. Google and Samsung may end up getting around that to an extent by simply restricting the feature solely to messaging apps. That’s not to say there won’t be issues – literally anyone who’s used notification summaries on iPhone will have stories to tell – but it at least skips over the worst outcomes.
One UI 8.5 is scheduled to launch with the Galaxy S26 sometime early next year.
