OpenAI will make its subscription plan, ChatGPT Go, free for all users in India for a 12-month period, which can be claimed from November 4, 2025, according to The Indian Express. The offer also applies to existing subscribers, who will receive 12 months of complimentary access. ChatGPT Go, which launched in India in August at Rs 399 per month, gives users higher message limits and expanded access to GPT-5. However, the company has not specified how long the promotion will remain available.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, said: “ Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI,” as the company saw inspiring adoption and creativity from users in India since ChatGPT Go launched a few months ago.

The free rollout coincides with OpenAI’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, which aims to engage Indian developers and creators. Through this initiative, OpenAI appears to be expanding access to its generative AI tools in one of its fastest-growing markets.

What is ChatGPT Go?

ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s low-cost subscription plan designed to make access to its flagship GPT-5 model more affordable. The plan includes everything in the free tier, along with extended access to GPT-5, image generation, file uploads, and advanced data analysis through Python tools. It also supports longer memory and features like projects, tasks, and custom GPTs for users managing workflows.

OpenAI first introduced ChatGPT Go in India as a more affordable alternative to the Plus plan before expanding it to over 90 countries, including Indonesia, Nigeria, Brazil, and South Africa.  Unlike Plus, which targets advanced users with features such as legacy model access, deep research, and video creation via Sora, Go focuses on broader usability at a lower price point. It offers higher usage limits but excludes legacy models and connectors.
