Nest Learning Thermostat has new faces – here’s how to use them

After their announcement earlier this month, Google has confirmed that its new Farsight Faces for the 4th-Gen Nest Learning Thermostat have widely rolled out. Here’s how to try them out.

Farsight Faces on the new Nest Learning Thermostat evolve between far-away and up-close views using an embedded Soli chipset to detect if someone is nearby. From a distance, the design is generally minimal, but as you get closer you’ll see more information. The Nest Learning Thermostat initially debuted with four faces, but has now added four more which include:

• Nest classic
• Temp controller
• Minimal modes
• Seasonal (monthly art)

The first two are meant to mimic the look of older generations of the Nest Thermostat, while the two others change up their look over time. The “Minimal modes” face shows different heating and cooling modes – and whether or not they’re active – in a minimal art style. The “Seasonal” face, meanwhile, features monthly artwork designed by artist Mathilde Loubes. The art matches the time of year, with the October face being a pumpkin.

Google’s Anish Kattukaran confirmed on Twitter/X that these new Farsight Faces for the Nest Learning Thermostat are now widely available to all users.

To access the new faces, open the Google Home app and access your thermostat. From there tap Settings > Farsight and you can pick your active face, as well as customizing the “near view” with a variety of different information including the current indoor and/or outdoor temperature, the time/date, humidity levels, and more.
