Tesla and Google are finally bridging the gap between open charging slots and actual navigation with live Supercharger availability in Google Maps. The new functionality will make it much easier for all EVs that rely on Tesla’s Superchargers to find a top-off.

Google Maps has integrated live readings in its app before, such as the popular times card that appears on restaurants and other locations that are susceptible to high wait times. Even Tesla’s charging locations have these cards available, though that information isn’t pulled directly from the EV manufacturer.

According to Tesla, Google Maps has officially integrated the company’s live charging availability data (via Electrek). On the user-facing side, Google Maps will display the data in a pill in the location information tab. The pill will read out the charging speed with a new availability ticker.

Depending on the Tesla Supercharger location in Google Maps, the pill will showcase a maximum number of available chargers along with how many are being used at the moment, displayed as a fraction. When more than one charger type is open, the tab will display availability for each speed.

The new ticker will be available in Google Maps across devices, whether that’s on Android, Android Auto, iOS, or Tesla’s in-car display. In the vehicle, the availability counter will be visible front and center.

Tesla notes that forecasted availability will be coming in the future, though it’s unclear if this is something that Google Maps will offer or a feature solely meant for the company’s trip planning app.

Tesla Supercharger availability is available in Google Maps starting today.
