Telangana (TG) police have arrested the man behind iBomma, a popular Telugu piracy website. Addressing the press, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar stated that piracy sites continue to harm the film and OTT industries, often luring viewers to online betting platforms.
The arrest of Emandi Ravi, the owner of iBomma, follows the Telangana police’s recent crackdown on another major piracy network. In October 2025, Medianama reported that the TG police had arrested several individuals involved with popular torrent and illegal streaming websites. Addressing the connection with online betting apps, Police Commissioner C.V. Anand stated that several betting platforms were making salary-like monthly payments to individuals assisting these torrent sites in their operations.
At the time of writing, iBomma’s domains remain inaccessible. The older iBomma domain, which previous operators shut down before disappearing and whose brand identity Ravi and his associates later adopted, still displays a notice stating that its services are temporarily halted in India.
Who is Behind the Piracy Racket?
At the press meet, investigators said the network operated nearly 65 mirror sites and stored more than 21,000 pirated films, ranging from The Godfather to They Call Him OG. Ravi allegedly earned about Rs 20 crore through the operation, of which Rs 3 crore has been frozen. Police have sought his custody to investigate suspected money laundering and trace financial flows.
Police identified Ravi as the operator behind the piracy websites iBomma and Bappam TV. A case has been registered against him under provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Copyright Act. Two of his associates, web developer Duddela Shivaraju and private employee Susarla Prashanth, were arrested earlier in September.
The Pirates vs the Police
In September, when the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce filed a complaint against various piracy websites, including iBomma, the website’s administrators issued a web post warning the Telangana police. They argued that the police were focusing on OTT-related piracy rather than camera-based piracy. “Stop focusing on us, or else we’ll have to focus on you,” they warned.
Expressing their ideological stance for choosing piracy, the people behind iBomma questioned the Telugu film industry over nepotism, high remuneration for actors, unnecessary overspending on foreign shoots, and the underpayment of crew members. They also said the increasing trend of ticket hikes was hurting middle-class audiences.
In their post, they wrote:“First, focus your attention on websites that release different camera prints. What we do at iBomma is similar to converting cigarette-smoking people to e-cigarette-smoking people. Your action will have my reaction.”
