Last December, Android XR was officially announced. Google is now following that up with a “future of Android XR” livestream on December 8.
On December 8, Google is hosting “The Android Show | XR Edition” where you’ll: “Learn about all things XR across glasses, headsets and everything in between. Hear how with Gemini by your side, you are able to have a more conversational, contextual and helpful experience.”
This 30-minute presentation starts at 10 a.m. PT. A teaser page on android.com lets you set a “reminder to learn about our biggest updates in Android XR.” There’s even a countdown to “Exciting XR updates.”
Google uses the rest of the page as a promo for Samsung Galaxy XR, and the available apps. The Android Bot is adorably shown wearing the headset throughout.
In terms of announcements, Google could be using this event to discuss new features for Android XR headsets. The Galaxy XR launched in October with a software experience and feature set that was roughly identical to what I demoed in December of 2024. Meanwhile, we could get more hardware from other OEMs. We already know about the XREAL’s Project Aura set for next year.
Personally, I want Gemini Live in Android XR to get much more capable, and pick up more computer-use functionality.
Meanwhile, Google will hopefully use this event to showcase Android XR glasses from Samsung. The Bot in the YouTube video is wearing a pair of glasses with a camera on one side. We don’t expect the first pair to feature a display and just be audio-only. Google will hopefully demo a near-final experience.
