Google Chrome for Android is gaining support for pinned tabs, a handy feature from the desktop browser, which makes it easier to keep important pages up.
As our phones become an ever-more important portal to the web, losing a tab can be a big problem. That’s where pinned tabs on desktop have been helpful. Chrome’s pinned tabs allow users to keep a tab active and somewhat separate from the rest of their active browsing, but always at the ready.
That functionality is now coming to Android.
Chrome for Android is adding pinned tabs to “keep important pages saved and ready.” A pinned tab appears at the top of the tab list. Any tab can be pinned by long-pressing on it and selecting “Pin tab” from the menu that pops up. When a tab is pinned, it appears in a smaller menu while you scroll through the rest of your tabs.
Google explains:
Pin the tabs you can’t afford to lose in Chrome on your Android phone. Whether it’s your daily reads or vacation research, keep important pages saved and ready for you to jump back in, just like on your desktop. Pinned pages stay saved at the front of your browser, letting you pick up right where you left off.
