According to a new report, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series will forgo a long overdue camera upgrade in the name of cutting costs.

The Elec reports (via @Jukanlosreve) that Samsung will again use its long-standing rear camera setup for the base Galaxy S26 and the revived Galaxy S26+ next year. This consists of a 50MP main camera, 10MP 3x telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. It’s all identical to the Galaxy S25, which was identical to the Galaxy S24, which was identical to the Galaxy S23, which was identical to the Galaxy S22.

Yes, Samsung is re-using the same camera setup on the Galaxy S26 that it’s been using since 2022.

According to the report, this decision was made in the name of cost. Samsung was apparently planning to finally make an upgrade to its camera array, but decided to stick with its existing sensors after seeing that Apple didn’t raise the price of the iPhone 17. Prior reporting revealed that Apple’s pricing is the reason for several of Samsung’s decisions on the Galaxy S26 series.

The report goes on to mention that while Samsung is likely to reuse the same sensors, it will have to make modifications just to make those sensors fit in the Galaxy S26 as the design was originally built out with totally different sensors in mind.
