Besides Search Live, Gemini Live is also rolling out a pair of updates today that should result in “less talking over each other” and “more smooth chatting.”

Previously, Gemini Live had a pause button between screen share and end session. This would put the conversation “on hold” until you tapped again.

Google is now switching that control to muting the microphone. This mute button is so that “you don’t accidentally interrupt” Gemini Live as it responds, especially if the “Interrupt Live responses” setting is enabled.

Old vs. new

The system notification has been similarly updated. We’re seeing Gemini Live’s mute button rolled out on Android today (including on the stable Google app), but it’s not yet appearing on the iOS devices we checked.

Meanwhile, Gemini Live is less likely to cut you off mid-sentence “if you pause too long” in your prompt/command. This is coming first to Android, with iOS following in the new year.
