Indian students’ personal data is being sold on the open internet through more than 1,000 databases, spanning nearly a decade, with the most recent batches covering CUET-UG and other exams conducted in 2026.

The accuracy of the leaked data, confirmed by parents and students. For instance, Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2026 UG student data is being sold for Rs 6,999 and claims to have over 15,56,840 records. The sample file we downloaded contained records for over 500 students. We randomly called more than ten individuals. Six responded and confirmed that their information matched the database. All of them confirmed the database’s accuracy, and no one knew their data was being sold online. Almost everyone expressed helplessness, saying, “What can we do now?”

Why we are not disclosing the websites: Medianama has identified at least three such PII data-selling websites. We are not disclosing the names of these websites to avoid drawing more attention to them, which might lead to further exploitation.

A redacted screenshot from one of the CUET-2026 databases.

Given the scale of these databases was beyond human comprehension, we converted the websites’ content into LLM-readable formats using the Jina AI tool. We asked the Claude Opus 4.6 model to provide insights from them. Here are selected findings from that analysis:

Across these three websites that MediaNama analysed, data from at least 41 distinct 2026 examination and institute databases is currently listed for sale. This is not an isolated leak tied to a single exam, but a pattern spanning nearly every major admission gateway in the country. This includes:

  • National-level entrance tests: CUET-UG, CUET-PG, CMAT, SNAP, XAT, UCEED, NMAT, MAT and ATMA.
  • State-wise CUET breakdowns: 17 separate state/region-wise CUET (UG) 2026 listings, covering nearly every Indian state.
  • State engineering and medical entrance data: EAMCET, ECET, ICET, Polycet and CET from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra.
  • University-specific entrance exams: IP University’s General, B.Com, BCA, BBA and B.Ed/BAJMC 2026 entrance databases.
  • Private coaching institute rosters: Aakash Institute and PAN-India JEE/medical coaching batches.
