We missed this earlier: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)’s Digital India Corporation (DIC) was hiring a Director for its IndiaAI Safety Institute to work under the IndiaAI Mission, according to a job advertisement published by DIC on May 19, 2026. The single position was to be filled on a contract/consolidated basis, with the posting based in New Delhi. The last date for applications was June 2, 2026.
This development came amid the government’s deliberations on formulating new AI regulation through possible upcoming stakeholder consultations.

What is IndiaAI Safety Institute? The IndiaAI Safety Institute is one of the bodies proposed under the AI Governance Guidelines released in November 2025. Under these guidelines, the Institute is expected to test and evaluate AI systems for risks and advise policymakers on AI safety and governance issues. - Explainable AI Framework — Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, in partnership with Mindgraph Technology Pvt. Ltd. — “Enabling Explainable and Privacy-Preserving AI for Security”
- Privacy-Enhancing Strategy — Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in partnership with IIT Dharwad, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, and the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) — “Robust Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning Models”
- AI Ethical Certification Framework — Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, in partnership with the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) — “Nishpaksh: Tools for Assessing Fairness of AI Models”
