Samsung has officially shown off the Galaxy Z TriFold for the first time and, in that initial showing, it appears that the new form factor is impressively still thinner than most of Samsung’s other foldables released to date.
According to The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold “appears” to measure around the same 4.2mm when unfolded as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 does. Even with a margin for error seeing as the device was behind glass and at a distance, that’s already quite the feat, but more important is how thick the device is when folded up.
The same report claims that the TriFold measures around 1.2-1.5cm when folded, or about 12-15mm. Again, assuming for a margin of error, that’s pretty impressive, and even more so when you think of it in context.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and its 8.9mm profile only came after several generations of Samsung making its book-style foldables thinner. So assuming the Galaxy Z TriFold falls somewhere in the middle of that 12-15mm range – let’s say 14mm – that makes it thinner than most of Samsung’s book-style foldables to date.
- Galaxy Z Fold 7 – 8.9mm
- Galaxy Z Fold 6 – 12.1mm
- Galaxy Z Fold 5 – 13.4mm
- Galaxy Z Fold 4 – 15.8mm (at thickest point)
- Galaxy Z Fold 3 – 16mm (at thickest point)
- Galaxy Z Fold 2 – 16.8mm (at thickest point)
- Galaxy Fold – 17.1mm (at thickest point)
That’s not to say Samsung would be beating the competition, though. The Huawei Mate XT, the only tri-fold on the market thus far, measures 12.8mm when folded.

It’s still unclear when Samsung plans to fully reveal the Galaxy Z TriFold, and equally unknown where it will actually go on sale. But this is yet another reminder of just how far Samsung’s foldable efforts have come in recent years.
