After previewing in August with the Pixel 10 launch, Gemini Live native audio output is now available on Android and iOS.

Gemini Live now takes advantage of “new model updates” that “dramatically improve its ability to understand and use key elements of human speech.” Conversations can become “more adaptive and expressive.”

You can now ask Gemini Live to speed up or slow down its response. Google envisions a user saying “Okay, speed up” to “get a crash course” on a topic. Overall, this boosts accessibility by “allowing users to adjust Gemini’s speech to a more comfortable and comprehensible speed.”

Another use case is tailored language learning: “Ask Gemini to quiz you on multiples of 10 in Korean, or practice casual greetings in Spanish. This.”

On the fun side:

  • Gemini Live can speak in accents: “Try out a cowboy accent when brainstorming dessert ideas for a rodeo-themed birthday party or have Gemini talk you through a Sunday roast recipe in a Cockney British accent.”
  • “Ask Gemini to tell you about the Roman empire from the perspective of Julius Caesar himself, and get a rich, engaging narrative complete with character accents. This new level of dramatic storytelling makes learning and entertainment more immersive.”

These customizations last for the duration of a conversation, though you can return to it by going to the chat transcript and tapping the Live button. Otherwise, everything resets upon starting a new conversation.

These model updates, presumably Gemini 2.5 Flash Live API native audio, have been rolling out over the past few weeks. It is now available on Android and iOS.
