Over six years after the last hardware release, Nvidia Shield TV continues to get updates, this time with the 9.2.2 upgrade rolling out with some quality-of-life improvements.

Detailed on Nvidia’s forums, Shield Experience 9.2.2 was first released last week and is more widely rolling out as of the past day, as noticed by Shield owners on Reddit and APKMirror owner Artem Russakovskii.

This is by no means a major update, but it brings a handful of notable improvements.

The latest Nvidia Shield TV update is focused on quality-of-life, a noble goal for a device that, at bare minimum, is about half a decade old. Nvidia has made tweaks such as adding a pairing alert sound to the Shield Remote and Controller, a settings UI for accessibility timeout, and a new “Bounce Keys” feature that isn’t detailed. Nvidia says this should also fix a bug where audio would drop out when watching Disney+ content.

The changelog follows:

Enhancements:

SHIELD TV is now more accessible to people with disabilities with design improvements and compatibility with assistive technologies:

  • A pairing alert sound to assist users when pairing the SHIELD Remote and Controller in both OOBE and Settings
  • Added Bounce Keys feature
  • Accessibility Key Repeat feature implementation
  • Added settings UI for accessibility timeout
  • Support TalkBack TTS in 23 European languages

Resolved Bugs:

  • Audio dropout with Disney+

Nvidia has kept up software support for the Shield TV for years now, and this latest update is still available not only for the 2019-released Shield TV and Shield TV Pro, but “all” Shield devices. Users have already installed it on the older 2017 Shield.
