Following the announcement at I/O 2025 in May, Google Wallet is letting users set up nearby pass notifications.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen Google Wallet send out notifications to “Check in to your flight.” The alert notes where your upcoming trip is and the airline, with Wallet presumably tapping the confirmation email in Gmail.

Meanwhile, opening a pass — like added boarding passes — sees Google Wallet prompt you to “Set up nearby notifications.” In this example, it’s to “Get notified when you’re near the airport.”

More broadly, this is “designed to provide timely and relevant information by alerting users about pertinent passes” when they’re near a designated location. This can apply to loyalty cards, offers, boarding passes, and event tickets. A single tap opens the pass for easy scanning.

The “Set up nearby notifications for all passes” has you switch the location permission to “Allow all the time.” You might have already granted it to see a map with your tap-to-pay transactions.

Changing these settings will turn on other Wallet features like customized experiences. Google will save your location to show you where you used Tap and Pay.

After setting up, Google explains you “can manage notifications for each pass in the pass details.” In this case, it’s “Get notifications for this boarding pass” after tapping the three-dot overflow menu in the corner.
