The Delhi High Court has issued an urgent temporary restraining order against an AI-generated film that used Akira Nandan’s personality without his consent. He is the 21-year-old son of Andhra Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister and actor Pawan Kalyan.

The court also ordered Facebook, Meta, and X to remove over 47 URLs containing content related to the AI film “AI Love Story.” The uploader, Sambhawaami Studios, has removed the film’s trailer from YouTube, but meme pages continue to circulate the content elsewhere. Additionally, citing alleged impersonation, the court ordered platforms to remove so-called fan pages that use Nandan’s name as their username.

What is the case about:

The complainant alleges that Sambhawaami Studios created, published, and circulated an AI-generated film titled AI Love Story on YouTube without Nandan’s consent. The video reportedly drew more than 1.1 million views in Telugu and over 24,000 views in English. The complaint claims that the content unlawfully used his face, voice, likeness, and identity to generate deepfakes and morphed visuals, including fabricated and alleged intimate scenes with a 14-year-old girl belonging to a “famous personality.”

The court noted that, despite his young age, he appears to have a “large fan following.” Citing his appearance in a film and his claimed contribution to the music of the Telugu film “They Call Him OG,” the court said this reflects his growing popularity among the public and within the industry, raising the “likelihood of exploitation of his name, image, picture, personality, voice, etc.”

The court also added that the fact that the producers of Sambhawaami Studios made an AI film was a “testament to his distinctive image and persona.”

“The irreparable injury and loss that the plaintiff may suffer, if no restraint orders are passed, would be irreparable inasmuch as a dent to the personality and the very image of the plaintiff can neither be measured in monetary terms nor be resurrected conveniently,” the court noted while restraining the producers and platforms from publishing any content related to AI LOVE STORY (Telugu) 4K and Akira Nandan that may violate his privacy.
