Meta announced an initiative to crack down on “unoriginal content” on Facebook through a blog post on July 14. The company took action against around 500,000 accounts in the first half of 2025 for spammy behavior, applying penalties that ranged from reducing their content distribution to blocking them from making money. It also removed about 10 million fake profiles that were impersonating popular content creators.
