“Content aggregation and audit, AI can do 10x better job and 10x faster than whatever human BPO or any parser or anything could have done,” IndiaMART InterMESH Limited Chief Executive Officer Dinesh Agarwal said on the company’s Quarter One FY 2027 earnings call on July 21, 2026, referring to Business Process Outsourcing.
IndiaMART listed content moderation as an artificial intelligence function in its earnings presentation for the second consecutive quarter. The company claims Section 79 safe harbour under the Information Technology (IT) Act before the Delhi High Court, arguing it operates as a neutral conduit.
Here are seven AI disclosures from the results:
1. Content moderation runs on AI while IndiaMART claims neutral conduit status in court: “We have streamlined the discovery process by introducing a standardized cataloging, intelligent matchmaking, and content moderation,” Agarwal said in his opening remarks.
He added that AI now extends into verification. “The third part is security and/or trust building. Currently it is a user-declared ID-based trust. I think there is a social trust that we can do because of the content aggregation,” he said.
The earnings presentation places proprietary behavioural data at the centre of three AI arms: content quality, experience, and trusted platform. Under trusted platform, IndiaMART lists content moderation and systemic user verification.
IndiaMART claimed Section 79 safe harbour before the Delhi High Court in its case over illegal drug sales, arguing it holds no responsibility for what sellers list. The Delhi High Court restricted the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) from acting on its criminal prosecution order in September 2025.
IndiaMART’s AI claims have expanded each quarter. In Quarter Four FY 2026, it named standardised cataloguing, matchmaking and conversational AI tools. This quarter adds content moderation and seller verification.
2. AI ranks which suppliers a buyer sees, with no published logic: “The second initiative is do a better curation and cataloging and digitization and category mapping and better specifications on the marketplace,” Agarwal said, listing measures to reduce supplier churn.
The presentation shows buyer Request for Quotation (RFQ) submissions passing through AI-driven enrichment and matchmaking before they are routed to suppliers. The AI/ML algorithm weighs product, location, price and quantity against buyer requirements and supplier preferences. The deck also lists AI-based smart replies inside the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Lead Manager, with roughly 146 million replies and callbacks in the quarter.
The Calcutta High Court dismissed IndiaMART’s interim application against OpenAI on May 20, holding the company had no enforceable right requiring ChatGPT to display its links. IndiaMART had argued that exclusion from ChatGPT’s responses caused commercial harm. Its own algorithm decides…
