The Gemini app is widely rolling out a pair of big quality-of-life improvements on Android with search and direct copying.
This started rolling out in June on Android for beta users, but is now seeing wide availability in the stable channel. The chat icon in the top-left corner is replaced by a hamburger menu. That opens a navigation drawer with a “Search for chats” field. Tapping opens your keyboard with a list of 15 “Recent” conversations.
The rest of the nav drawer features a “New chat” shortcut with “Temporary Chat” soon appearing to the right of that.
You get your two most recent “Gems” and a link to “Explore,” while “Recent” history rounds things out. Pinned conversations appear first, while you get a continuously scrolling list.
Force stop the Gemini (Google) app if you’re not seeing search yet on Android, while the nav drawer redesign is still rolling out to iOS as of Thursday morning.
Previously, you were unable to directly copy a portion of Gemini’s response without first entering a “select” interface.
Google has now added the ability to directly highlight and copy Gemini responses just like you would on a webpage. Standard options like “Select all” are available, while the previous “Select [plain] text” interface remains in the three-dot overflow menu.
This is widely rolled out with the stable and beta versions of the Google app on Android. We’re not seeing it on iOS.
Meanwhile, Google has also rolled out the Guided Learning tool to Android and iOS after debuting on the web last week. On mobile, it’s shortened to “Learn” if you don’t have the Tools menu redesign yet. Notably, it appears as the first or second item (behind Video). Those on Google AI Pro and Ultra have also gained an “Image” shortcut.
