Ahead of its seemingly imminent launch, the Philips Hue Bridge Pro has again surfaced, this time revealing its much higher capacity for devices and some other new features.
Last week, a page on the Philips Hue website surfaced and revealed the existence of the Philips Hue Bridge Pro, but details were pretty slim. The page only teased that the new hub would be faster and support more connected devices beyond the existing limit of 50, but offering no specifics.
Now, further leaks have revealed more information.
Apparently, Lowe’s has been seeding the Bridge Pro to some of its reviewers, which has also led to some devices showing up on Facebook Marketplace. One such listing (thanks Ben!) reveals several key details about Philips Hue Bridge Pro.
The new bridge, as expected, still supports Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, HomeKit, and Matter, while still acting as the “heart of your Hue system” with support for smart controls and sync as well. The box also teases that the bridge “unlock[s] advanced lighting and home security features.”
There are three particular key points of interest, though, starting with the added device capacity on Philips Hue Bridge Pro. The packaging specifically reveals that the new bridge supports “150+ lights” and ” 50+ controls.” The number of lights is tripled from the previous limit of 50 lights, but the “controls” is a bit unclear. If this is referring to accessories such as control buttons, “50+” would be up from just 12 on the current model. This seems to be the case, as another recent leak from SmartLights.de mentions support for 50 accessories and “500 scenes.” That same report adds that the new bridge will support Wi-Fi connections instead of requiring Ethernet, be powered over USB-C, and be “five times faster” thanks to upgraded specs including 8GB of RAM.
Beyond that, the packaging also promises “instant light response without slowing down your Wi-Fi” as well as the previously-teased support for turning “Hue lights into motion sensors with Hue MotionAware.” There are still no firm details on how this will work and what bulbs will be compatible, but it sounds very interesting.
As it stands currently, Philips Hue has not announced the Bridge Pro or officially teased it, but it seems quite likely that we’ll see the device debut at the upcoming IFA trade show. Last year, the Hue Sync Box 8K was announced in line with the show.
