If you’ve got a meaty library of videos in your personal Drive, Google just made it easier than ever to jump right into the company’s edit tools in Google Vids.

Google Vids is one of the newest additions to the company’s Drive suite of producitivty tools, delivering an easy way to quickly make simple edits utilizing Gemini. Starting today, the company is adding a more accessible shortcut to every video in Drive, allowing users to quickly import and edit the video without having to manually import it. The shortcut is located along the top of Drive’s usual preview UI, alongside the typical Share and Download options.

Google says clicking this link will automatically open the video file in Vids, where users will have access to the usual toolset provided by the app. Vids isn’t quite up to snuff with more powerful video editors out there, but if you just need to quickly trim a clip or add some on-screen text, it’s a pretty handy utility. Naturally, there are a handful of restrictions. Clips have limits of just 35 minutes in length and 4GB in total storage space. You’re also restricted to just the standard file types Vids already supports: MP4, OGG, WebM, and MOV.

This change began rolling out to users on August 21st, but it’s on the company’s extended rollout schedule, so it may take more than 15 days to hit every account. It’ll be available for all Workspace users.
