After introducing scheduling last month, the Google Home app is getting another round of Nest Thermostat updates, especially for existing users in Europe.
There are four big Google Home additions for European owners of the Nest Learning Thermostats 3rd Gen UK/EU. This comes as Google has stopped making Nest Thermostats for Europe.
- Hot water boost added to thermostat controls (available for On/Off boilers connected to the Nest Learning Thermostats 3rd Gen UK/EU)
- Hot water scheduling added to settings (available for On/Off boilers connected to the Nest Learning Thermostats 3rd Gen UK/EU)
These next two Google Home features are also coming to Nest Thermostat E users in Europe:
- Heat Link temperature (available for Nest Thermostat E) and hot water temperature setting (available for OpenTherm2 combi boilers connected to Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen UK/EU or Nest Thermostat E)
- Easy-access Eco button to quickly start and stop Eco (available for Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen and Nest Thermostat E)
Meanwhile, smart heaters, mini-splits, window air conditioners, and other “non-thermostat climate devices” will see expanded temperature and mode controls on the fullscreen page. For example, an AC might let you change modes or the power saver. This is available for devices compatible with Matter and Works With Google Home.
In the Favorites tab, you can pin tiles for outdoor weather (temperature + condition) and air quality (AQI) to “give context for your home’s environment.” Similarly, Google will show outdoor temperature in the thermostat control page.
The final two updates, with everything announced today rolling out over the “coming weeks,” are:
- Simplified thermostat settings to make it easier to find and adjust the controls you use most frequently
- Addressed bugs that caused thermostat controls to appear to jump around after you adjust the temperature
The goal continues to be getting people off the Nest app.
