Besides announcing a new AI Labs program, YouTube is making official the latest Premium features for subscribers today, like faster playback speeds. Most were first previewed at the start of this year.
Premium members now have faster playback speeds up to 4x (in .05x increments) in YouTube for Android, iOS, and the web. Youtube.com/new is no longer required to access.
Meanwhile, high-quality audio (at 256kbps) is now available in the main YouTube app on Android and iOS for “official/premium music videos and Art Tracks.” This is already available for YouTube Music.
On smart TVs and gaming consoles, Jump Ahead is now available to see a video’s most interesting parts and other key moments.
On the YouTube Shorts front, YouTube for iOS picks up Picture-in-Picture and Smart Downloads.
- Keep your Shorts playing in a small window while you scroll through other content on your device.
- Automatically download your favorite Shorts based on your previous watch history, so you always have something new to watch – no action required from you. This feature, previously available on Android and as an opt-in experiment on iOS, is now fully available on iOS.
