YouTube has just announced that its new Premium Lite subscription is expanding to India, and it’s also been made available in a few other regions too.

YouTube Premium Lite is a more affordable subscription that ditches support for YouTube Music and also has other limitations, like not being able to download videos for offline viewing on mobile devices. But it does the most important thing, which is removing ads from YouTube videos (but not Shorts).

In a brief blog post, Google says that YouTube Premium Lite is rolling out to users in India for ₹89/month, about $1 USD when directly converted. In the US, Premium Lite costs $7.99/month. It is worth noting, though, that full YouTube Premium in India costs ₹149, or just shy of $2 USD. Pricing per region always varies.

Today we’ll begin expanding our Premium Lite pilot to users in India. Premium Lite gives viewers a new, more affordable way to enjoy most videos on YouTube ad-free for ₹89 per month. This expansion comes as YouTube Music and Premium reaches over 125 million subscribers, including trials globally.

Google has also recently rolled out Premium Lite in Japan and the Philippines as detailed on a support page which has been updated this month.

Outside of these three latest regions, YouTube Premium Lite is available in the US, UK, most of Europe, and other parts of the globe.
