ADT has confirmed that its subscribers will have to wait a bit longer to access Google Home’s new Gemini features, but nothing is breaking for the time being.
Through Google’s partnership with ADT, subscribers end up using Nest products such as Nest Cam and Nest Hub, with those customers inevitably also using the Google Home app for additional Nest features. For those who are using this setup, Google’s announcements earlier this week will have to wait.
Speaking to 9to5Google, ADT has confirmed that Gemini for Google Home will be available to its customers at a later date, though a concrete timeline wasn’t provided.
The reasoning here is that ADT is evaluating how Gemini and Google Home Premium will affect its security products and existing features. It makes sense, as even Google has these features only available in “early access” for the time being. It remains to be seen how much Gemini will integrate with ADT’s smart security system, but it certainly seems like the right move to hold off while the dust settles.
ADT says:
ADT takes a security-first approach. ADT will offer Home Premium once integration is tested and ready for critical security use cases.
In the meantime, ADT subscribers will still have Nest Aware, and will also be able to use the Google Home app redesign. The only things missing are the new Gemini features for Nest cameras, speakers, and the app itself. New Nest hardware will also work with accounts using ADT, they’ll just be using Nest Aware instead of Home Premium. ADT also tells us that when Gemini features roll out to subscribers, some features will be available before others, and the rollout will be phased, suggesting that it might not be available to all subscribers at once.
Google’s new Nest hardware is available for purchase now, while ADT’s security systems are also available.
