With the release of One UI 8 stable for the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung is launching a new photo manager called “Gallery Assistant.” The app will feature batch editing tools, but for basics like watermarks and compression.
Android’s photo editing scene has become a little more complicated as a shift towards AI has taken the wheel. Some of Google’s Android 16 QPR1 photo editing features seem to present more to learn, even though Google’s Gemini models are meant to make the process simpler.
Samsung’s Gallery Assistant beta seems to take things in the opposite direction, appealing to those who need basic but proven tools. The app comes through the Samsung Members app with One UI 8. It’s in a beta form, so changes are bound to be made in the future.
Users are given a few different tools in a very basic opening menu. This is what the app makes available:
- Reduce size
- Rotate and flip
- Image clipper
- Add watermark
- Compare images
- Save as PDF
Most of these Gallery Assistant tools are straightforward and appeal to Samsung device users who need simple batch editing tools. Images can be selected at the top of the app, and any of the features chosen will apply to the selected images. For instance, up to 500 images can be selected, and one of the options can be selected to apply to all 500. The “compare” function only works with up to 4 images.
File reduction seems to work well, with some images brought down to 1.72KB, though they were simple screenshots to begin with. The other tools are easier to predict.
Samsung’s Gallery Assistant app is available in the beta section of the Members app. The section is still new, and it looks like Samsung is beginning to use it to host apps as well as big software updates. It’s currently available for the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 on One UI 8 in South Korea only, it appears.
