At Made on YouTube 2025, Live streaming got several notable updates for both Creators and audiences alike.
Creators (as seen above) can now stream both horizontally and vertically, while maintaining a shared chat between the two formats. The latter is cropped for phone screens and provides a more optimized experience for mobile. This is being tested now, with more Creators getting this capability in the coming months.
YouTube is also further embracing reaction streams with the ability to more easily broadcast (vertical stream) alongside eligible content, like current events or other Creators that are live. Testing will start early next year.
Meanwhile, side-by-side ads on desktop and TV will split your livestream and show advertising on the right. This is available now, and coming to mobile and more streams later this year.
A new format will let you transition a public livestream to private one for your paid channel members. “Member-only live” is rolling out now with full availability in the coming weeks.
Like with podcasts, AI will suggest what parts of your livestream will make for good Shorts. This will be available in coming weeks.
For new Creators, the YouTube app on mobile will help them practice live streaming. This is coming later this year, and can be used to test setups or try new tools before going public.
