“We are also establishing a next-generation green data centre in a coastal district, as well as near Bengaluru. That is a major initiative we are taking up,” Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said at Google’s I/O Connect India 2026 event in Bengaluru.
He also announced that the Karnataka government wants to “lay the foundation for the first and largest AI university” to build AI talent.

How AIIMS Delhi is using Google’s MedGemma models: “I’m thrilled to share that AIIMS is now also using MedGemma to build models for two more use cases: one for leprosy, and one for sexual and reproductive health. These new models will support patients, doctors and healthcare professionals in identifying and managing conditions based on images and text inputs. The outcomes of all the models that AIIMS Delhi is building will be open-sourced, to contribute to India’s digital public infrastructure. The tools to solve incredibly complex, localised problems for India, and for every Indian, are in your hands right now. We cannot wait to see how you innovate with them,” said Somesh Gupta, Professor of Dermatology at AIIMS Delhi.
“The app takes an image and a text description of symptoms to help identify skin conditions. MedGemma brings together clinical images, patient history and symptom descriptions using multimodal AI to generate structured, context-aware clinical insights, helping healthcare professionals make faster and more informed decisions,” he added.
Google’s Gemma 4 to be used in Aarogya Setu 2.0: “National Health Authority has leveraged our MedGemma models and open-source toolkit for its new Aarogya Setu 2.0 app. This is opening a new chapter for digital health in India,” said Dr. Manish Gupta, Senior Director of Research, at Google DeepMind. He also said that “large enterprises like Tata Steel are using our AI on Google Cloud to strengthen customer relations, employee experience.”
In June 2026, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda launched Aarogya Setu 2.0, which functions as an AI-enabled Personal Health Record (PHR) management platform and a centralised application for digital health services in India. The proposed centralised health platform plans to use Google’s Gemma 4. Read more about it here.
