Like Pokémon, it’s fun to try and snatch up every new custom like button in YouTube’s redesign. One user put together an animated list of every new icon.
Part of YouTube’s broader new design on Android and iOS includes several new like buttons. They don’t do anything other than give affirmation to the channel, but they’re animated based on what type of content category the video falls into.
In total, there are 20 new like button animations, ranging from sports to movie genres. YouTube detailed this change, though the specific icons seemingly weren’t disclosed. Andreas Storm on Tiwtter/X posted a set of two videos that show each animated new like button.
The button animations are only about one second long, each. There’s still plenty of character added to each one. Here’s a quick list of each category:
- Motorvehicle
- Learning
- Music
- Film
- Travel
- Basketball
- Football
- Cricket
- Snocer
- Baseball
- Cooking
- Tennis
- Cat
- Comedy
- Dog
- Horror
- Love
- Romance
- Thriller
- TV
The new UI, though controversial, brings some much-needed UI changes to make the app feel more modern. That includes changes to the in-video “more videos” section, and scrubbing text when double-tapping.
This also isn’t the only change made to the like and dislike buttons. The UI adjustment brought the cartoonish thumb icon over from YouTube Music, adding some continuity between the two apps.
We were able to get some of these new animated like buttons to work in YouTube on our devices, but it might be hard to find all of them in the wild.
