Google Search is having a bit of fun with Apple TV’s Pluribus, a new show from the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
Google has a long history of adding pop culture Easter eggs when searching for a television show or movie, with big societal moments also triggering.
Pluribus was released on November 7 with a two-episode premiere, and is now on its fourth episode. The show is about the “most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.” [You should really go into episode one completely fresh without even watching the trailer, or reading the rest of this post.]
For those already well versed, entering “pluribus” into google.com or the mobile apps will result in a scroll for: “What are you searching for, Carol?”
It evokes episode 1’s news scroll: “Carol, when you’re ready you can reach us at this number. No pressure. We know you’ve got questions. On the topic of Easter eggs, Apple did set-up 202-808-3981 as a working number.
Meanwhile, episode 3 had an amusing “It’s us, Carol” message on the caller ID of the landline. Save for episode one, there are no smartphones. Helen was using an Android phone, while one of scientists at the start of the show was using a Lenovo laptop in a surprising lack of Apple products.
Anyways, because of Thanksgiving in the US, episode 5 (out of nine) will air early on Wednesday, November 26. Pluribus has already been picked up for a second season.
